This time next week I will be in New York City, at my company’s headquarters. I’m speaking alongside three other women as part of a business review of my channel. I’m nervous about the presentation, of course, which is pretty high-level and being given in a room full of intimidating people. But we’ve rehearsed it over and over, and made countless edits to our PowerPoint slides. With the work aspect mostly handled, I’m free to worry about what really matters, what I should be wearing in New York!
San Diego and New York style are about as opposite as it gets. We wear jeans (or dressy jeans, if the occasion dictates) and flip flops all year long. We wear bright colors and patterns and hippie jewelry. If the photos below and my previous trips are any indication, when in New York, you are best off wearing black and white, accented by killer heels and designer shades. And there is also the snow factor. I asked our New York assistant what shoes to pack for snow and she recommended wearing tennis shoes to the office and then changing into heels. That gave me a chuckle, though I do think I need to hunt down some cute, comfortable water-resistant boots this weekend.
Here are the photos I’ve bookmarked for style inspiration. How chic are these ladies?!
You can never go wrong with a black blazer.
I want this coat!!
I’ll take this coat, too. Leather pants won’t work in the office, but I wouldn’t mind wearing them out to a cool NYC bar!
This whole look, with one of the afore-mentioned coats, is perfect.
I love how she dresses up a more casual look with those amazing heels!
Alexa, always adorable.
I think I need this entire outfit. Especially that leather skirt! (Too much for Casual Friday?!)
Wish me luck with my work clothing hunt…I’m on a tiny budget with no time to shop. I’m planning to hit up Zara and hope for the best!

New York! Good luck on your presentation. I’m sure you’ll knock it out of the park. I love all the images you gathered for outfit inspiration. I would happily wear each and every one. As far as snow boots, I remember seeing some cute Sorels on sale (Nordstrom or Sports Chalet?). Have a great time, Erin!
Thanks, T. I appreciate it! I’ll hit up Nordstrom and see what they have. Even cute rain boots would probably work.
ok, love every single look. especially those leather pants! you’ll do fantastic next week, I have no doubt. and if you want a shopping buddy this weekend, call me.
yes yes yes! I can use a stylish eye like yours
Have a great trip – NYC is such a great place. And I’m sure you’ll find the perfect outfit. I’m thinking your killer outfit for the important presentation is: skinny black pants, silky blouse, blazer and stilettos. Definitely wear boots to the office and then change your shoes!
Hopefully you’ll have time to enjoy the restaurants and nights out!
I’m totally stealing that. So sophisticated
And yes, I should have at least one free night to explore beautiful Midtown, ha ha.
I am wishing you the best of luck with that. I always lust after Zara and then hate the cuts. I would like to think others have better results
I know, right? I usually try on 10 things there and buy 1. But the 1 is always cute!
Have fun! I’ll be there for work the 19th – 21st. Sad that we will miss each other there! I would definitely go for some waterproof boots if you can find them. If not, the suggestion about wearing tennis shoes or slip-ons and changing at the office should work well.
I just returned late yesterday from Chicago, and will be back there again next week, so can sympathize on the clothes issues – not much in my southern California wardrobe works there! (Of course, I already wore my best outfits this week, and now have an issue for NEXT week…) As for the weather, it turned from a warm, grey day of torrential rain on Tuesday to very cold snow on Wednesday-Thursday, with a bi-product of ice. Boots are a must! I wore a heavy raincoat over my work clothes, which was about right.
I will catch up with you today or tomorrow to wish you a terrific presentation next week – I know you are well prepared and will do an impressive job for your organization!
