Get to Know: Haydee from Happenstance

It’s funny how small the blogging world can feel, vast as it is. At least a year ago, I took a blogging workshop from Oh Joy while I was in LA for work. It was a class of about twenty people, and I reconnected with two of those women, Haydee from Happenstance and Theresa from Inspiration Cooperative, this year. Haydee is one of those women who makes being cool look effortless. She is always up on the latest music, design, fashion and trends, and her blog and the blog collective she helps run, The Post Social, are daily reads. But most importantly, when I met her again in person, she was just so down-to-earth and friendly. I loved reading her answers to these questions (especially her advice to her 18-year-old self; wish I had heard that years ago!) and I’m sure you will, too.

Favorite photo taken this month… (pictured above) plus a bit of the story behind it.

I took this photo of my 5 year-old daughter last month in Palm Springs. I love it because ever since the Olympic trials she’s been keen on wearing her swim cap (I love the cute little monster guy on it) and goggles whenever she is in the pool. And she’s become quite the competitive swimmer. I think she just beat someone here doing the backstroke.

What is the last book you read?

Simplicity Parenting. Couldn’t recommend it more. Whether you have kids, are often around kids, are an aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa … you will find great knowledge and insight into the sanctity of childhood.

Beauty tip?

If you fake tan that’s okay. Just don’t look like you rolled around in a bag of Doritos. ( I totally stole that from a @WolfpackAlan tweet–I found it both hilarious and very spot on). And for the record I don’t happen to tan.

Daily uniform?

Jeans (or cords), a t-shirt, and either flip flops or my trusty (very beaten up) Converse. Oh, and my favorite black G-Shock watch I found recently and have started wearing again.

How would you spend a perfect day alone?

It would start with the perfect cup of coffee and reading a book in the morning sunshine followed by a long day at the spa. The day would end with the most amazing Bikram yoga class or massage to relax, count my blessings and sleep soundly.

Dream vacation spot?

Paris! Which I was lucky enough to visit for the first time earlier this year.

Crowd-pleaser dish?

Quinoa, corn, and mint salad. It’s so good and is the best summer BBQ side dish.

Right now I’m listening to…

Radiohead’s In Rainbows a lot lately.

Blog my readers may not know that you’re loving?

Siriously Delicious: Siri is a major foodie who comes up with the most creative and delicious recipes. Plus, she’s super funny and sarcastic. One of my favorite combos.

If you could tell your 18 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Couple things … Read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Then learn to trade in the stock market (it’s not just for grown men in suits) and you’ll be well on your way to financial freedom at a very early age.

Yay, love seeing Haydee here and reading her answers to these questions. She is definitely effortlessly cool; Couldn’t have said it better. Plus, she is wicked funny. My husband read Rich Dad Poor Dad many, many years ago and that is what inspired him to get into real estate. The rest, as they say, is history.
PS~Seeing p. in her swim cap and goggles put a big smile on my face.

Ok, you ladies are making me think I should add that to my reading stack. Goodness knows I could use more financial savvy!
