I thought it would be fun to start a new series featuring bloggers I read and love: ten silly questions to help you get to know a bit more about these awesome ladies I’ve “met” in the blogging world. I’m kicking this off with Torrie from A Place to Share. I can’t remember how I first found Torrie’s blog, but I’ve come to love her honesty, her candor, and her great posts on food, health and gardening. Torrie, thanks so much for joining me today!

Favorite photo taken this month…(pictured above)
This picture was taken this past Saturday evening… Jacob (my 14 year old son), myself, a couple of good books, and a fuzzy Christmas blanket. It’s been pretty hectic in our lives for several straight weeks, and last weekend, we finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Life is slowly starting to settle, and little pockets of time are opening up for us to get back to doing the things that we love to do.
The last book you read?
The last book I read was Simplicity Parenting. I also participated in the fantastic series and {virtual} discussions. This book was equally simple and profound- thought-provoking, challenging, empowering, and truly life-changing.
One book you said you read but never did?
A while back, my husband and I read a book called, Kosher Sutra, that I’d seen on several talk shows at the time, and declared that we needed to read it asap. Since I tend to fall asleep within minutes of reading if it gets too late (8:00pm sometimes feels “too late”), I started taking time to read a little each [early] evening. In an effort to maintain a bit of privacy from my curious children, I replaced the book’s cover with this- more wholesome book- which is still sitting on the bookshelf… unread.
Daily uniform?
Hectic days call for simple, comfy attire. Still, I try to steer clear of “frumpy.” So, lately- this is my uniform… Da-Nang pants- particularly, these (one of my favorite brands when it comes to pants… I wait for them to go on sale on shopping sites to add a new pair or two to my collection)… a basic cami… and for a little pop of color- my newest pair of sandals.
How would you spend a perfect day alone?
Coffee & reading on the porch… a morning hike… a little meandering- at a farmer’s market, a bookstore, a favorite shop… possibly some baking… taste-testing the baked goods of course… maybe a little project that’s been set on the back-burner (a craft, an ‘organization to-do’, gardening)- just to balance out the lazy with some productivity… a couple of good meals mixed in… and a “glass” of wine, a magazine or two, & a good movie to top it off.
Dream vacation spot?
Italy. {nuff said}
Crowd-pleaser dish?
This orzo salad has been a hit with every single crowd. I still get surprised with the number of people that ask for the recipe. I’ve found that as many of us love our heavy comfort-filled dishes, we tend to prefer and appreciate the lighter offerings. This salad is light (without being too light) and offers the perfect balance of flavors, colors, and textures.
Right now I’m listening to…
Just as with clothing, hectic days call for mellow evenings. And in full disclosure, as of late, I simply cannot get enough of– Willie Nelson. His music is a total happy-maker… and although my daughter says, “Again??” when I push play… she secretly loves it too.
Parenting tip?
“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don’t listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won’t tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”
I saw this on Pinterest a month ago, and not only is it absolutely true, it’s a good reminder to stop and listen- whether we think it’s “big” or not. When they get older, and their words get fewer, I can vouch that it makes a big difference.
If you could tell your 18-year-old self one thing, what would it be?
You are just right.
Hope you enjoyed this peek into Torrie’s life. I have another great blogger friend for you to meet next week!

I love this! Thanks for introducing me to a new blog!
thanks again for having me erin! loved the questions you asked, & i had a fun time answering them. {think we met on twitter… via katie??
}
Torrie is fantastic — and I love what she’d tell her 18-year-old self. I think a lot of our 18-year-old selves need to hear just that.
Love hearing Torrie answer these questions. Cracking me up that she replaced the book cover. Love her.
What a great read and this is why Torrie is one of my favourite bloggers. The day by ourselves are so similar (except I can’t bake to save myself) and so loving all her words about simplicity parenting. Yes if we don’t listen to the small stuff, the big revelations won’t come our way.
Thanks for sharing. Hee hee… I am tickled by your solution to “rated R” books.
I totally agree, Torrie, and her answers, were great- funny and thoughtful!
Love the new series, Erin. Torrie’s parenting tip is a great one. I think if I could manage to keep this one tip top of mind, the rest will fall into place.
You and Torrie both did such a great job with the Simplicity Parenting posts last week (as did all the women who participated). It really was a great series.
Torrie, just yesterday, Ava said to me as we were pulling into the driveway and parking, “momma, now can you look at me so i can tell you what happened today…” even littles know when youre paying attention or not and looking them in the eyes when they are talking is an amazing communication cue. great post. xo
I have had the pleasure/privilege of meeting Torrie in person a few times, and she’s just as lovely as her words might imply!
ahhh… thank you everyone. so nice to come back and read… after a looooooong week
. erin- it’s really been a pleasure getting to know you over the past few months!
